Abstract

The article uses the material of differential dictionaries to investigate the lexemes with the -vod- root and their variants functioning in the Karelian Pomorie. It analyzes the semantics, part-of-speech affiliation, areal distribution, and etymology of these formations, and provides some ethnolinguistic and folklore details. The study revealed nouns found mostly only in the Pomorie, which denote water and water-related objects of inanimate nature and household items, naming people and mythological characters. The lexemes included in nine lexico-semantic groups were formed mainly by adding suffixes. Their accentological, phonemic, morphological, and word-forming variants have also been found. The research revealed some individual rare adjectives and no adverbs, words describing the category of state or verbs.
