Abstract

This specific research examines the parties that operate in the container transport and management market, one of which is liner shipping companies and the other party is the container terminal operators. Firtsly, an analysis of the current global trends in container liner shipping and in port industry is made. Then, the research is limited to the geographical area of the Mediterranean market and examines the alliancies of liner shipping companies in that market. Furthermore, the demand and the supply of the main Mediterranean ports is analyzed. Finally, the research examines the productivity of the main Mediterranean ports. To sum up, conclusions are drawn in terms of the container management companies and the port competition, and the role of greek ports is defined, as far as containers are concerned.
