Abstract

This article deals with the development of the conceptual model of the hydro-mechanical well tractor. Well intervention in directional and horizontal wells requires the development of new technologies and devices. The necessity of increasing penetration depth led to the development of Well Tractor® technology. It became one of the most efficient technologies last decade. This innovation allowed oil companies to increase the efficiency of well intervention. It helped to reduce costs and increase oil and gas production. In connection with the survey of horizontal wells the main problems faced by a field-geophysical department are the following: - cementing quality check and casing integrity evaluation; -the identification of sources of water trouble; -the identification of producing and receiving intervals; - the evaluation of stimulation efficiency of a production well. The above-mentioned objectives of development control under these conditions can be achieved provided there are reliable technological complexes to carry subsurface devices to the bottom of these wells. The well tractor has a number of advantages over the other means of transporting equipment. They are: -carrying exploratory tools to horizontal sections of wells with a considerable drift; -the increase in the penetration distance into the wellbore; -the increase in well operations efficiency; -cutting research costs and decreasing the number of people involved. Thus the well tractor is the optimal device for transporting equipment into the borehole of a horizontal well and well intervention. It is important to develop the hydromechanical well tractor having high efficiency and a simplified construction design. The cog wheel worm gear drive determines the dimensions of the device. In developing the well tractor construction design basic geometrical parameters of the cog wheel worm gear drive were defined. The strength calculations of worm threads and cogs for their back-to-back endurance and bending resistance were made. The efficiency factor of the device was determined.
