Abstract

Purpose. The aim of the study is to establish the possibility of expanding the regional ecological network of Ukrainian Black Sea region with the definition of potentially suitable lands for development of ecological network. The object of the article is the ecological network of the Ukrainian Black Sea region. The subject is the components of the structural elements of the regional ecological network Data & Methods. The basis of this article is the information of the State Land Agency and statistical data, the Programs of Odesa, Mykolayiv and Kherson oblasts for the formation of econet; environmental legislation of Ukraine. In this paper were used mapping, comparative geographical and statistical methods. Results. In the Ukrainian Black Sea region there are elements of the Ukrainian ecological network, which have both national and pan-European importance, since the formation of representative protected areas is an absolute priority of the new Strategy of planning areas. Territorial analysis of the structural elements of the regional econet showed that the proportion of areas that could potentially be covered by econet, an average of 32% of the region. Thus there is considerable unevenness – from very low rates in central Kherson areas to high in Coastal zone. In the Steppe zone, which is almost entirely occupied by agricultural land, the main reserves at forming regional econet are the pastures and hayfields. Natural protected areas occupy 5.62% of the region, this figure can be increased to 7-10% as through the expansion of existing protected areas and by creating new. Comparison of regional econet schemes to physical-geographical zoning and landscape maps showed that the regional econet underrepresented of middle steppe landscapes. It would be necessary to conduct an additional examination and analysis of land use for further more detailed regional ecological network planning. Ecological network should to cover all subtypes of landscapes in the Ukrainian Black Sea region.
