Abstract

The paper examines the thoughts of foreign students regarding the importance and quality of teaching Serbian as a foreign language at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Niš during the mobility program. Since the establishment of the Center for Serbian as a Foreign and Non-Mother Language (2013), the number of foreign students has been increasing from year to year, which enables continuous evaluation of the quality of accredited Serbian language courses as a foreign language. During the academic 2021/2022. We conducted a survey among thirteen foreigners, who attended the Serbian language course for foreigners at the beginner, intermediate or advanced level. The results showed us that students are extremely satisfied with the quality of teaching, but also the student exchange itself, giving four recommendations for raising the quality of teaching: 1) organization of preparatory language courses; 2) increasing the number of Serbian as a foreign language classes on a weekly and monthly basis; 3) maintaining a friendly approach of teachers towards exchange students and 4) creating and using ˮsurvival textbooksˮ. Keywords: Serbian as a foreign language, mobility, exchange, quality of teaching, Center for Serbian as a foreign and non-native language.
