Abstract

Recently, the advantages of the continuous casting process of steel, which include an improved product yield, energy saving, an improved working environment and an improvement of product quality, have come to be widely recognized. An outline of the history of continuous casting process is described in the paper. The paper outlines recent developments of technologies as follows:(1) Reduction of the surface defects.(2) Reduction of the internal defects.(3) Improvement of the productivity.(4) Automation.A summary of expectations for future developments of technologies with regard to productivity and product quality is also given. Finally, attention is drawn to the future developments of horizontal continuous caster and synchronized continuous caster of steel.
