Abstract

The article presents to Ukrainian readers the material about the life and creative work of S. Krzhyzhanovskyi. A special attention is paid to his biographic factor as following: his study and labour activity in Kyiv, personal and working relationships with public figures that were related to Ukraine. Detailed analysis is given to an essay «A Good Sea», which is very similar to the philosophical works of Ukrainian writers as R. Ivanychuk and Val. Shevchuk. The works reproduces the unique social color of Odessa, which is manifested primarily in the language. The author (as well as his heroestravelers) are enthralled with a special lexical space of Odessa, dominated by ʺOdessismʺ (author neologism), which gives some grounds for goodhumorous outcomes in the use of the words, based on the playing of closeup or unequivocal linguistic units of Ukrainian and Russian languages with different meanings. The works of were issued by the publishers of Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Great Britain, Holland, Spain, France, Sweden, Japan, USA, Brazil. However, there are no Ukrainian publishers in this list, but Ukraine has given a trip to Krzhizhanovskyiʹs life, so the ʺUkrainian trackʺ in his biography is still waiting for his researchers. Although recently the interest of Ukrainian scholars to the work of Krzhizhanovskyi has intensified, different research and dissertations have been written. The author of the article tries to cast a light on the problem of identification, without pretending to do any comprehensive exploration, but trying to pay the recognition debt to one of intellectual and creative person whose fate is related to the Ukrainian land. On the pages of the essay, the image of the Black Sea city and its inhabitants appears as an expanded metaphor depicting its past and present, labor and life, customs, culture, passions and mood.Consequantly, the Ukrainian ʺtextʺ in the lifecreativity of S. Krzyzanowski is noticeable and still awaits careful study.
