Abstract

Twelve cases of nasal and paranasal papilloma were reported from a clinicopathological viewpoint. Histopathologically, all cases were inverted papillomas and one of them was the mixed type with exophytic papilloma. We studied immunohistologically the laminin and fibronectin in the nasal and paranasal papilloma tissue and found that laminin and fibronectin gradually disappeared along with epithelial changes, such as cellular atypicality and proliferation. This result indicates that laminin and fibronectin are transformed sensitive proteins which are necessary for proper tissue organization of the nasal mucosa.Additionally, the contact Nd-YAG laser surgery, developed by us, was used for the surgical removal of these papillomas. This surgery can be easily controlled and causes less bleeding.
