Abstract

Special medical procedures are conducted to prevent and mitigate the medical risks for cosmonauts working outside the pressurized space vehicles, both during preparations for and implementing the extravehicular activities (EVA). These include assessment of health adequacy for EVA, control of preventing instructions, EVA medical monitoring, and advice as appropriate. The paper presents the integrated EVA medical monitoring data from the cosmonauts of orbital station Mir and International space station (ISS RS). Experience shows the criticality of medical prevention for successful EVAs, and necessity to have an EVA medical kit in ISS RS.
