Abstract

The present senior thesis aims to identify the optimal solution of systems that can cover the thermal needs of zero energy buildings. More specifically, a reference is made in systems that can individually be used in such buildings and an emphasis is placed on hybrid heating systems. The process of design and financial evaluation of all these systems is presented. The design method and the principles that a hybrid heating system must follow are also given. All of the above are introduced in a program within the Excel software, which aims to automatically apply all the data presented in this research, in order to identify the optimal solution of a hybrid heating system for zero energy buildings. Next, an example of a building design method is given , so that when applied in the aforementioned program, the building could be defined as a zero energy one, in terms of thermal loads. Finally, with the help of the Excel program, an analysis is made on hybrid systems under various operating conditions.
