과학 교사의 교과내용학지식과 교과교육학지식의 연관성 분석: 지구과학 교사의 대기압 수업 사례

Abstract

이 연구에서는 교사 지식 기반의 두 핵심 요소인 SMK와 PCK가 어떤 관련성이 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 26명의 중등 지구과학 교사를 대상으로, SMK 분석을 위해서 기압 개념에 대한 진단 검사를 실시하였으며, PCK 분석을 위해서 대기압 주제에 대한 수업 계획을 작성하게 하고 이를 토대로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 대기압에 대한 교사들의 SMK 수준이 매우 다양한 것으로 나타났다. SMK 수준이 높은 교사의 경우는 대기압 개념을 보다 심도있게 이해시키기 위하여 보충적 및 기본적 교육과정 내용에 집중하는 반면, SMK 수준이 낮은 교사의 경우는 기본적인 내용보다는 적용적 교육과정 내용에 더 치중하는 경향을 나타내었다. SMK 수준이 높은 교사는 대기압 관련 학생의 오개념 또는 어려움을 더 구체적으로 파악하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, SMK 수준이 높은 교사는 학생의 오개념을 도입하여 이를 과학적 개념으로 변화시키기 위한 학생 중심의 수업전략을 사용하는 경향을 나타낸 반면, SMK 수준이 낮은 교사는 교사 중심의 개념 설명에 치중하는 경향을 나타내었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 효과적인 과학 교사 양성 프로그램을 위한 함의를 논의하였다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between subject matter knowledge (SMK) and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) for science teachers. To this end, a total of 26 secondary Earth science teachers participated in this study and a concept diagnostic questionnaire and a lesson planning task of atmospheric pressure were devised to give an indication of participating teachers' SMK and PCK, respectively. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, participating teachers showed a variety of SMK levels about atmospheric pressure. Second, teachers at high level of SMK focused on 'supplementary' and 'fundamental' curriculum contents for in-depth conceptual understanding, but teachers at low level of SMK, on the contrary, stressed 'applicative' curriculum contents. Third, teachers at high level of SMK grasped students' misconceptions and difficulties in learning atmospheric pressure far more concretely than teachers at low level of SMK. Lastly, teachers at high level of SMK showed a tendency to use learner-centered instructional strategy by utilizing students' prior knowledge, but teachers at low level of SMK were inclined toward teacher-directed concept explanation. Based on this study, some implications for effective science teacher preparation programs were also discussed.
