МАГІСТЕРСЬКА РОБОТА ЯК КВАЛІФІКАЦЙНЕ ДОСЛІДЖЕННЯ

Abstract

The article focuses on the topical question relating to the preparation of a qualification master thesis. The theoretical basis of the paper comprises modern academic literature describing the requirements for master thesis writing. The general aim of the article is to highlight the main aspects of master thesis preparation, to characterize the stages of research, as well as modern requirements for the structure and content of a master thesis, to reveal peculiarities of master paper defense. The essence of concepts «master degree», «master thesis», «self-guided work», «academic research», «academic methodology» is clarified the article. The importance of research activity in master studies is explained.  It singled out and described stages of master research writing: preliminary stage, at which the problem of research is found, the topic is determined or chosen; stage of work on the text and content, which includes a detailed review of the scholarly literature and  ractical research; final stage, which means writing introduction and conclusions, compiling references and appendices, editing the text of the work with regard to the comments of a supervisor, preparation for paper defense. It is analyzed in the article structure and content of the master thesis, it is noted that it consists of the following parts: introduction, main part (chapters, paragraphs), conclusions to each section, general conclusions to the work, list of references, appendices. The information content of the chapters must be correlated with the purpose and tasks specified in the introduction. The theoretical part must contain the analysis of academic literature on the problem under research and the practical – characteristic of the research methodology, description of the main results, explanation of noticed tendencies, etc.  It is underlined that master thesis defense is the final step in the preparation of a qualification research. During the procedure student has to demonstrate the level of their academic qualification and professional competencies, the ability to conduct the research on their own, find concrete academic problems and be ready to solve them in a proper way.
