Abstract

The purpose of the article is to consider the communicative peculiarities of the police interaction with the media. The methodology. The complex of scientific methods, namely: terminological, systematic-structural and formal-logical is used in the article. The scientific novelty lies in the formation of the main forms and directions of interaction between patrol police officers and media representatives. It is established that a clear algorithm of the patrol police interaction with the media will provide not only the media coverage of true information of police activity results but also will create an open dialogue between media representatives and law enforcement agencies while performing their duties of safeguarding public security and order. Conclusions. On the background of the main forms of the police interaction with the media’s analysis it is stated, that such interaction: 1) unites forces for achieving a specific purpose - informing the population; 2) gives assurance that the state secret information will not be disclosed; 3) promotes reliable partnership between the parties; 4) facilitates the police provision of the access to the public information which belongs to it in the manner and in accordance with the requirements established by law; 5) gives to the police the hope to have a reliable media partner in establishing public relations with the community. Meanwhile, the algorithm of the police officer’s action in the process of interaction with mass media representatives is generalized. It is determined that each of the parties of this communication has certain responsibilities as to the other: during mass meetings on the police territory journalists should be on the defined by law enforcement officers’ places, and the police, in its turn, should give the assistance to the press if their professional rights are violated. Attention is drawn to the fact that the ability of patrol officers to build relationships with members of the press is regarded as an important criterion for assessing their professional level, political and legal culture.Keywords: communication; patrol police officers; press; National Police of Ukraine; mass-media; the image of the police.
