Abstract

Various pathogenic diseases, such as Panama disease, Black Sigatoka, etc., struck Taiwan banana industries, especially panama disease. During 1967, the Panama disease attacked cavendish banana of Taiwan. Five years later, Panama disease was a problem throughout the Taiwan banana production area. After this, and until now, there is no effective chemical and cultural control, except breeding or growing resistant varieties. In order to gain resistant offsprings, crossing was made between five maternal triploids and four resistant diploids, four resistant diploids being used as both parents. As a result, 8 hybrids of diploids were obtained. Of the 8 plants, 4 care diploid AA-types, and 4 are diploid AB-types, respectively.
