Abstract

Indicating that social exclusion is one of the key reasons for low academic achievement, the authors analise social exclusion of Roma students in primary schools in Niš. The paper constists of three parts: the data of social and educational status of Roma population are presented first, then the most important laws of Roma inclusion, and finally, the results of research of Roma student’s social exclusion in elementary schools in Niš are depicted. The conclusion is that Roma students are not integrated into their peer groups and that there is a noticeable social distance towards them.
