Abstract

The present work deals with the investigation of business and strategic planning in local government through a case study in the Municipality of Acharnes. Initially, the theoretical part of the work refers to the concept of strategy and the concept of strategic planning. Extensive reference is also made to strategy tools and the most important of them are presented. In the second part of the work, a primary qualitative research is carried out with the aim of investigating the business and strategic planning in the local self-government. More specifically, the research focuses on the Municipality of Acharnes and the research question that arises is whether the Local Government Organizations need in fact operational and strategic planning in order to move forward. The research involved individuals who are active in the Municipality of Acharnes and hold positions of responsibility. In particular, the investigation involved seven people on their now duty, whom are electives or public servants. The research focused on investigating the views of the participants on the operational programs of the Local Governments, on the operational programs of the Municipality of Acharnes 2011-2014, 2015-2019 and 2020-2024 and the profile of the Municipality of Acharnes. According to the results of the research, it becomes clear that the Local Government Organizations need operational and strategic planning in order to upgrated. During the last decades, the meaning of local progressing and local planning is getting growing in Greece also, by basic growth tool the strategic programs that also municipalities use.
