Abstract

Spring waters and groundwaters were collected from stable slopes and landslides in the Tertiary landslides area in Niigata parfectur and analyzed for major ion constituents. The characteristic properties of groundwaters in the fresh Tertiary landslides were sammarized as follows. Electric conductivity of spring water or groundwater from the fresh landslide area was 10 times higher than it from the stable slope or the old landslide.(Ca, Mg) (HCO3) 2 or (Ca, Mg) SO4 is a main component of spring waters from the stable slopes and the old landslides. In the fresh landslides, Na2SO4, NaHCO3 or NaCl is a characteristic constituent. Ca2+/Mg2+is nearly constant (1-1.3) in samples in which Na+ was dominant cation. This fact suggests that Na+dominant water was closely connected with fresh mudstone. It was concluded on the bases of anion distribution that in the fresh landslides, HCO3-and Cl-originated from deep water and SO4-- was supplied by oxidation of pyrite.
