Abstract

This study explored university faculty and staff members’ English proficiency and English learning motivation on their intercultural communication. To accomplish this research purpose, research questions are constructed as follows. First, what are the English literacy skills, motivation to learn English, and intercultural abilities according to the faculty and staff’s background? Second, what is the correlation between faculty and staff’s English literacy, motivation to learn English, and their intercultural communication skills? Third, how much influence does the ability to use English and the motivation to learn English exert on intercultural communication skills? Questionnaires and surveys were conducted from 110 staffs and 43 faculty members. The SPSS statistics was used for data analysis. The findings of data analysis showed that university staff and faculty’s English literacy skills and motivation to learn English significantly influence their intercultural communication ability. Implications of the findings and suggestions for further study were also discussed
