Abstract

The crisis in the European North of Russia, which are associated with the transition to a market economy, the most manifest themselves in the small northern villages. Socio-cultural adaptation was used as a basic concept to describe the features of life of residents. The socio-cultural adaptation of the villa-gers of the Kola North was compared with adaptation processes in the villages of the Near North of Russia. The article describes the features of the «cell-globalization» villagers of the Near and Kola North. Sociological research was conducted in Krasnoshchelye and Teriberka to study the features of the socio-cultural adaptation of residents of Kola North. The research was conducted in a qualitative strategy using methods interviews and photographs. Villagers Krasnoshchelye and Teriberka differ significantly in complex traits «cell of globalization», due to the various remoteness of the these settlements. Residents use the informal practice of life support, which are associated with the spending of wildlife when the settlements are far removed. If the settlements are not removed, residents cannot use the informal practice of life support to spend of wildlife, because supervisory authorities monitor them. Identified informal practices can be an effective resource recovery settlements if the government would make them official and allow the local population to use them actively.
