Abstract
The work is devoted to the history of «Occupational Diseases» definitions in all editions of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, the Small Soviet Encyclopedia, the Great Medical Encyclopedia, the Concise Medical Encyclopedia and the Popular Medical Encyclopedia. The comparison makes it possible to elucidate the continuities as well as the conflicts in the history of occupational pathology. Methods from the history of ideas were supplemented by methods from the arsenal of the social history of science to obtain a full, three-dimensional vision. The symbiosis of the two approaches demonstrates not only the transformation of texts, but also the relationships that remain outside of them, whether it be joint work, membership of one or more scientific schools and others.
