Abstract

Ibn Arabi occupies an important position among the symbols of Islamic civilization. Having spent part of his life in Anatolia, the author of hundreds of books and letters is an important figure for both Arabs and Turks. In recent years a number of novels has been published that feature Ibn Arabi as their main character. Among them there is Jabal Qaf written by a Moroccan novelist Abdullah Bin Arfa and Endülüslü Zidyar: Son Anka by a Turkish author Ahmet Baydar. This article deals with the way in which the character of Ibn Arabi is presented in both novels. Whereas in Jabal Qaf he is the narrator telling the story of his life from the day he was born until his death, Endülüslü Zidyar: Son Anka concentrates on the period of Ibn Arabi’s life that he spent in the Mashreq. After a brief plot summary, the article proceeds to comparing the ways of describing the main character. Both similarities and differences between the novels were pointed out; with the conclusion that the main cause of differences lies in the respective author’s environments, point of view and their reasons for making Ibn Arabi the main protagonist of their narrations.
