Abstract

The article studies the actualization of children’s linguistic worldview, which is a representative of a child’s knowledge of the world, as well as a guide to his/her value development. The materials of the research are modern fairy tales for children in Russian and English. The authors have developed an algorithm for identifying the lexical units that verbalize the concepts of modern children’s fairy tale, basing on the integration of cognitive and linguo-cultural approaches. Using the possibilities of the content analysis, the key concepts “family”, “friendship”, “fairy animal” that form the linguistic worldview of a child are extracted and analyzed. The results of the analysis lead to the conclusion that for each concept in different linguistic cultures there is a certain combination of linguistic expression means, which causes a certain set of associations (so-called associative series) in the minds of the representatives of different cultures. The novelty of the work is in the fact that for the first time the comparative study of children’s linguistic worldview content in American and Russian modern tales is conducted.
