Abstract

Education is the source of knowledge, as it is an effective tool to transfer the cultural and technical experiences produced by humanity through its long historical career. Particularly, education in Algeria has gained support at all levels especially recently. So, the state paid special attention to the reform of higher education through the LMD system to keep up with the change under the global challenges by focusing on the requirements of quality management. In recent years, there is a growing interest about applying quality to improve education especially higher education, which brought fundamental changes in the educational system as a result of what many countries done in this field, including the Arabic countries. Therefore, Algeria still seeks to achieve this objective by trying to join those countries, through reforming the sector in line with the requirements of quality management in the higher educational institutions. So we decide to divide this paper into two sections. The first is about the quality management, its standards and their benefits. The second section reviews the Algerian experience in the field of higher education and the reforms undertaken in the beginning of this century, and compared the results with the quality standards. We sum up that despite the benefits of the application of the LMD system in Algeria, but the low output of higher education which is not up to the market of the job, requires more efforts from Algeria to lives up the best score. Finally, we came up with recommendations suggest how Algeria access the Arabic states that have followed this approach in their higher educational institutions.
