Abstract

If yarn tension varies in a circular knitting machine, then the properties of the knitted fabric change in many respects even though the stitch cam remains unchanged. Cotton yarn is used. Yarn tension is increased for both plain and interlock fabrics. The following results are obtained.For plain knitted fabrics : Course, wale and weight per square meter increase and loop length and width decrease, as the yarn tension increases.For interlock knitted fabrics : Course and width increase, and wale, weight and thickness decrease, as the yarn tension increases.It may be added that it is possible to apply the following Doyle and Munden's equation for plain knitted fabrics.N=K/L2 where N : course×wale, L : loop length, K : constant.But it is impossible to apply the above equation for interlock knitted fabrics without any modification of it.The influence of yarn elongation caused by yarn tension on loop length is little, i. e., 2-3 % at the most.
