Abstract

Climate change is an issue of great global concern, with the risks to natural, social and economic systems being particularly serious. The optimal management of the climate change requires significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decades, fact that requires a transformation of everyday life and a widespread acceptance by citizens. In recent decades, stakeholders have become increasingly involved in strategic actions and public awareness of climate change. Given the pandemic, people's daily lives have changed significantly and global greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 have decreased, but this situation will change once mobility restrictions are lifted and economies recover, unless governments and citizens are more informed and aware about climate change. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the views of Greek households on climate change. For this purpose, the quantitative method is chosen, using an electronic questionnaire, in a sample of 200 citizens of Greece. According to the results of this survey, the majority of participants have a moderate to very good level of climate change awareness. Particularly aggravating elements are the burning of fossil fuels, the destruction of forests, vehicles, public transports and human overconsumption. Main impact indicate the increase in temperature, as well as the effect on water, flora and fauna of the world. In terms of awareness, the majority of the sample said they have made changes to everyday life in order to contribute to tackling climate change. The sample recognises the benefits of covid – 19 pandemic to household habits in tackling climate change. Finally, demographic differences have emerged in relation to awareness of climate change and in relation to changes in the public in their daily lives, in the interests of climate change.
