Abstract

The article analyzes students’ ideas about the distance learning format. The author conducted a sociological study among full–time students. Three universities of the Yaroslavl region were selected for the study: pedagogical, medical and technical. It was important to assess the perception of distance learning by students of these universities, since these universities have different resources for mastering the material being studied. It has been established that after the decline in the incidence of COVID-19, distance learning is more practiced in a pedagogical university than in a medical and technical one, but also not in significant volumes. The survey revealed that students of a pedagogical university are more satisfied with the distance learning format than students of medical and technical universities. In addition, an interesting fact was established: the higher the material well–being of a student’s family, the lower the satisfaction with distance learning. In addition, an interesting fact was established: the higher the material well–being of a student's family, the lower the satisfaction with distance learning. Nonresident students and students with low academic performance are more satisfied with online learning. And there is an obvious pattern in this: the first are happy to study at home, and the second are happy with the weakening of control and the opportunity to find answers on the Internet or to write off from classmates. A gender imbalance has also been revealed: girls, unlike boys, find more advantages in distance learning. The main advantage of distance education, according to the girls, is that you don't have to get up “early”, have more free time, you don’t need to get ready for a long time and go to university. Students of a pedagogical university, to a greater extent than students of medical and technical universities, are convinced that their university, if necessary, is ready to conduct classes in a distance format. Most students of the medical university believe that it is not necessary to replace offline education with online, distance learning is advisable only as an additional one. The author of the article suggests measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of teaching in the distance learning format.
