Abstract
The primary purpose of this article is to analyze the state of contemporary art in the context of mass culture: the phenomena of mass and elite art are characterized, the relationships between and mutual influences of various factors of mass art are determined, and the significance of the commercial aspect in the development of contemporary art is revealed.

Abstract: the primary purpose of this article is to analyze the state of contemporary art in the context of mass culture: the phenomena of mass and elite art are characterized, the relationships between and mutual influences of various factors of mass art are determined, and the significance of the commercial aspect in the development of contemporary art is revealed. В сфере искусства феномен массовой и элитарной культуры получает свое закономерное развитие. Произведения элитарного искусства могут быть адекватно восприняты и интерпретированы только подготовленным реципиентом. Формируется своего рода порочный круг: массовая культура является отражением массового человека, так как ориентируется на него и, в то же время, формирует его потребности и мировоззрение.
