Abstract

The flow-injection analysis with mass-spectrometric detection (FIA-MS) was the first widespread system of the fast determination of the molecular mass. Then open access systems based on high-performance liquid chromatography with mass-spectrometric detection (HPLC -MS) became popular. The scientists of the Zaporozhye State Medical University make a targeted synthesis and systematic search for compounds with different biological activities. The assessment of the purity and structure of these compounds is a very important task. It was necessary to analyze numerous information regarding the mentioned topic for reproduction and development of the conditions of the purity and the molecular mass determination of the new bioactive compounds. The analysis of the literature devoted to the assessment of the purity and confirmation of the structure of new bioactive compounds by HPLC-MS with single quadrupole have been done. The main stages in the evolution of the open access liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry for purity research have been described and molecular mass of new substances that are potential drugs has been determined. The analysis of the concept of the open access mass spectrometry (OAMS) that is easy to use, unified mass spectrometry which was proposed in the early 1990s have been done. The development of OAMS systems from the PIA-MS to HPLC-MS which is used to check the purity and determination of the molecular mass of the substances having biological activity and may be potential drugs have been shown by the analysis of the literature. The application of the additional detectors such as chemiluminescence nitrogen detector and evaporate light scattering detector has been discussed. The use of these detectors has been substantiated. The parameters of these systems configuration have been described. The advantages and disadvantages of the mentioned systems have been discussed. The advantage of the HPLC-MS than PIA-MS have been explained.
