Abstract

The article summarizes the results achieved and outlines the prospects for the development of direct democracy in European countries and Ukraine in the context of a general decline in the level of democracy in the world. The analyses of the main forms of direct democracy (initiative, referendum and recall etc.) are done and the effectiveness of their use in EU member states and in Ukraine is rated. The potential capacity of direct democracy to accele­rate the democratic transit of our state by renewing political structures, social relations and values is substantiated.Keywords: direct democracy; forms of direct democracy in EU member states; forms of direct democracy in Ukraine.
