Abstract

The article analyzes specific features of the professional legal communication in foreign languages. The necessity of studying the issue of international legal communication in Russia results from the increase in the number of contacts between Russian lawyers and foreign guests cased by the development of social relations and participation of foreign citizens, legal entities and capitals in them. The article examines the influence of particular characteristics of legal professions on the learners’ needs of university students, and on the communicative actions and communicative skills responsible for those actions, in particular. The range of the communicative actions and skills of legal specialists determines the range of skills to be developed and tested at law faculties of Russian universities. The article states that the acquisition of the above-mentioned communicative skills should be based on the situational principle of the syllabus design because in-class modelling of communicative situations imitates professional communication of lawyers in real life. The author illustrates the discussed issues giving examples of civil law professionals’ international communication.
