Abstract

The research objectives are as follows: to reveal semantics and functions of connecting elements in the Buryat language, to identify peculiarities of their functioning in the Buryat folk tales. Relying on the classification of cohesion types developed by the American linguists M. Halliday and R. Hasan, the author analyses connecting elements interaction in the Buryat folk tales, which constitutes scientific originality of the study. As a result, it is shown that in the Buryat language, means of cohesion can perform different textual functions, often express personages’ communicative intentions, usually serve to establish anaphoric/cataphoric relation.
