Abstract
This paper deals with the optimal elevator operation policies that minimize passenger’s waiting and journey time. The elevator system in the paper is assumed to have two types of operation; full-floor elevator and high-rise elevator. For both types of elevator the round-trip time is mathematically formulated based on not only the elevator’s specification such as its speed, size, building height, and so on but also the passengers’ arrival rates and their waiting behavior, which has not been introduced in the conventional research. Applying queueing theory we calculate the passenger’s waiting and journey time and conduct some numerical experiments to clarify the full-floor elevator’s optimal operation policies.
