Abstract

This study was intended to reveal how local residents’ perception of Suwon Convention Center is differed according to their residential areas, and to carry implications for the successful operation of Suwon Convention Center in the future. To achieve the purpose of this study effectively, the analysis of advanced research was conducted based on the recognition of local residents related to the convention center. The allotment of the four districts (Kwonseon-gu, Yeongtong-gu, Jangan-gu and Paldal-gu) of Suwon City was implemented by demographic characteristics. The survey about local residents’ recognition of the ripple effect of the convention center, the impact of the convention center to one’s personal life, change of regional attachment to the convention center, the residents’ attitude and support toward the development of convention center was implemented. A factorial analysis and dispersion analysis have shown that there are differences in the perception of local residents in different areas for all factors. Especially, Paldal-gu has the highest awareness of the variables such as the impact of individual lives, regional affections, support, environmental positives, internationalization and economic positives. This is because the residents of Paldal-gu, located near Hwaseong, the traditional tourism region in Suwon city, have the highest awareness of the spillover effects of tourism. In addition, the result showed that differences in the perception of local residents in different areas of residence. In order of Jangan-gu and Gwonseon-gu residents have the highest awareness of the negative factors such as social and environmental irregularities, environmental irregularities. Therefore, it can be suggested that it is necessary make the customized policies considering regional differences such as spreading the positive recognition among Paldal-gu and building the awareness in Gwonseon-gu and Jangan-gu where has various concerns.
