Abstract

The aim of the article is identification and study of contextual meanings of words appearing in journalistic texts reflecting changes in public consciousness that have affected their dictionary meanings. The material for this work was selected dictionaries of the Russian language and modern Russian-language journalistic texts, including texts from the Internet. This material uses contextual analysis for words that are supplemented with meanings at the moment, or have already significantly changed their lexical meanings, which in turn proves the validity of the hypothesis that prognosticality is an integral property of a journalistic text. The analysis showed that before semantic shifts of words are recorded in dictionaries, they are, first of all, repeatedly contextually reproduced in journalistic style texts. The study of the contextual meanings of axiologically colored words revealed the transformations taking place in the system of social ethics.
