Abstract

The article aims to shed light on didactic capabilities of computer games in foreign language teaching on the basis of analysed concepts of gamification in educational space. The article elaborates on essence of gamification processes and content of the notions ‘game teacher’, ‘game practitioner’, analyses issues of creating educational content and developing new forms of work using commercial computer games, describes ways to use them in the German language classes. Scientific novelty lies in providing methodological rationale for didactic potential of educational and commercial games from the viewpoint of modern linguo-didactics and in describing ways to integrate gamification elements into foreign language teaching. As a result, the researchers have provided an insight into issues of methodology and use of game practices, defined areas of their productive use as a motivating and illustrative tool that also enhances understanding of a subject, formulated principles of integrating game practices into foreign language teaching.
