Abstract

In this study, we found alternation of selected motivation through processing casual leisure to serious leisure activity unlike the initial selected motivation for the middle aged women. Based on the paradigm model of Strauss & Corbin, the phenomena were collected in stages through in - depth interviews with the research subjects, observation in participation, and literature data. Similar concepts are classified into 30 subcategories and 13 upper categories through open coding and axis coding. The extracted 13 upper categories are categorized to causal condition, contextual condition, intervention condition, action & interaction strategy, and result based on the central phenomenon. Through the causal conditions such as health, deviations, and self-discovery, participants experience the central phenomenon that is the conversion of various motive as a serious leisure in terms of physical, mental, social and cognitive experience. Also, Social interaction, self-confidence, and skill acquisition were acted as a contextual conditions and the action & interaction strategy of the central phenomenon. The various phenomenon also occur under arbitration conditions. Through this process, participants restore their faith in themselves and think about the meaning of happiness of their life. The result of the self-realization of job conversion gives great influence on life, not merely pleasure as casual leisure. In this study, serious leisure activities of middle-aged women analyze not only simple motivation for utilization of surplus time, but also various phenomena of step by step change of motivation to serious leisure can contribute to the expansion of the discussion.
