Abstract

The purpose of this study is identify the differences in personality and sociality development levels according to the participation and non-participation in extracurricular physical activities and the level of participation using evaluation tools which measures personality and sociality development of the youth who participate in extracurricular physical activities. Additional purpose is to identify the level of participation in extracurricular physical activities of the youth and causal relationship between their personality and sociality development. Study subjects are currently enrolled students in middle and high schools which are affiliated in S City Education Office in 2014. Data of total 274 students were collected and used in final analysis except the data of 26 students who were judged to be inappropriate due to insincere answers and part of the survey data were omitted. First, participating group in the youth extracurricular physical activities shows higher level of personality development compared with non-participating group. Second, participating group in the youth extracurricular physical activities shows higher level of sociality development compared with non-participating group. Third, levels of participation in the youth extracurricular physical activities greatly affects personality development. Concretely, participation frequency significantly affects specific community spirit, self-sacrifice and positive attitude, and participation strength affects the community spirit, and participation period affects the confidence, self-sacrifice and positive attitude. Fourth, levels of participation in the youth extracurricular physical activities greatly affects sociality development. Concretely, participation frequency significantly affects endurance and affinity, and participation period affects the leadership, group activities, endurance, affinity and expression ability. Fifth, levels of participation in the youth extracurricular physical activities doesn’t affect the sociality directly, but indirectly affects through personality.
