Abstract

Adolescence is a period with important developmental changes and growth. Due to neurobiological vulnerability and impulsivity related to ongoing brain development, adolescents exhibit a high rate of risky behaviors such as gambling. In addition, adolescent gambling has recently emerged as a serious social problem because easily accessible channels through online have increased. Adolescent gambling can cause a number of serious problems, including school adjustment problems, financial problems, interpersonal problems, delinquent behaviors, and coexistence of mental illnesses such as substance addiction and depression. Thus, an in-depth understanding of adolescent gambling is required. This study aims to systematically review current status, characteristics, risk factors, treatment, and prevention of adolescent gambling. Future directions for adolescent gambling research are also suggested.
