Abstract

we report on 13 patients treated with the Sauve-Kapandji procedure since 1989. Subjects included 7 males and 6 females with a mean age at the time of surgery of 56.6 years (range, 15 to 78 years). The mean duration of follow-up was 1.5 years (range, 0.5 to 4.7 years). Four patients had posttraumatic changes of the distal radioulnar joint, 3 patients had rheumatoid arthritis and 3 patients had degenerative changes of the distal radioulnar joint. Complete relief or decrease of p: reoperative pain was obtained in all patients and the range of motion during both pronation and supination improved in all patients, especially in those with psottraumatic changes of the distal radioulnar joint. In general this technique was faluable, although 2 patients still had persistent pain in the stump of the ulna. Preoperatively these 2 patients had severe displacement of the ulnar head. Therefore we consider that postoperative pain in the stump of the ulna is influenced by preoperative displacement of the ulnar head.
