Abstract
The aim of the study was to teach students how to refere in the framework of improving the effectiveness of preparation for professionally oriented written and oral communication in a non-linguistic university. The article discusses the features of summarizing a technical text from Russian into French, methods of its compression and stage-by-stage work on a secondary text using Présent narratif tense.
