Abstract

The ever-increasing globalization of the economy is at the same time making modern life more dependent on supply chains and freight transport systems for the distribution of products and raw materials. Every improvement of the supply chain contributes decisively to the development of agricultural production, with agri - logistics, the supply chain of agri - food products, to be considered a sub-branch of logistics and to include all stakeholders responsible for production (farmers) , processing (factories), distribution and transportation and finally the marketing of agricultural products. The scope of the agro-supply chain extends to all activities to harmonize the production of agricultural products from crops to their delivery and use to the final customer - consumer, with the aim of having the right agricultural product in the right place at the right time, at the lowest possible cost and of course according to the correct standards of quality and food safety. The aim of the work is to be an application guide in the agri-food industry and agri-food supply chain management practices, highlighting the importance of agri - food supply chain management in the development of the economy, both nationally and locally. The main purpose of this paper is to present methods and techniques of the supply chain management sector, which have direct application in the agri - food sector. This paper presents agri-logistics systems in countries such as the United States of America, the Netherlands and Greece and presents case studies of supply chains both domestically and in agri-food supply systems in foreign countries, to highlight benefits from successful and effective practices adopted in agri - food supply networks.
