Abstract
The paper examines the linguistic features of the borderland population, which are presented as an example of cultural and linguistic transfer. The residence of different peoples on such a territory inevitably leads to the interpenetration of neighboring cultures, which is reflected in languages, especially in phraseology. The paper shows how the mutual influence of languages and cultures occurs based on the example of Latgalian and Rusin proverbs. The role of linguistic borrowings and ethnolinguistic markers in cultural and linguistic transfer is noted.
