Abstract

The article deals with the issues related to the introduction in Russia of a judicial procedure for the use of involuntary psychiatric measures, primarily involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. The material presented is largely based on the personal recollections of the author, who participated in the preparation of the first Law in Russia on Psychiatric Care and guarantees of the rights of citizens in its provision. The author does not limit himself to considering only what concerns the history of the formation of the judicial order of involuntary psychiatric hospitalization, but also analyzes a number of debatable problems that have not lost their relevance today.
