Abstract

Undoubtedly, the school library is not only a catalytic resource in the circulation of information and knowledge but also an equally important and timeless educational resource. In this light, the purpose of the work is to highlight the necessity of school libraries in schools and their crucial pedagogical and educational role in the evaluation of educational work. Specifically, it is investigated through the views of secondary school teachers, the way in which the school library contributes as an educational institution to the strengthening of the school unit. In particular, the research focuses on the impact of the school library on learning outcomes and the development of students' information literacy, but also its specific impact on the planning of teaching so as to modernize it, to effectively meet the educational requirements of the 21st century. In order to achieve this purpose, but also the individual objectives, a quantitative research was conducted, and the questionnaire was selected as a research tool for data collection. The findings show that teachers see the school library as a potential lever to positively improve student performance and better manage information and information resources, but on the other hand, its degraded role in schools does not make it the springboard to achieve such results. Then, for the same reasons, the effect of the school library on the transformation of teaching into a research process enriched with the supplies of modern technology seems to touch the realm of the impossible for the data of Greek education. Therefore, this research demonstrates the need to redesign the goals of the educational system, so that the institution of the school library acquires its rightful position in the Greek school.
