Abstract

The article reveals the problem of East - West interrelation, which is an element of an important trend in literary criticism - studying national, cultural, political self-identification of a personality and the whole nation. The research is based on the novel “The Black Book” by Orhan Pamuk. The contemporary literary work is compared with family chronicles and detective novels. Special attention is paid to analyzing the basic story lines, post-modernistic artistic devices in the context of the integrity of the Turkish writer’s creative work.
