Abstract

The article deals with the foundations of institutional trust in science in the societies of modernity and postmodernity. The problem of institutional trust in science is relevant due to the dispersion of knowledge in modern society, leading to the spread of unscientific perceptions and the gradual loss of the scientific worldview by Russians. The article shows that in modernist societies science is the main institution that produces knowledge, enlightenment is an important component of modernization. However, the scientism of modernity faces serious cultural contradictions, provoking distrust towards science. In the conditions of postmodernity formation, the tendencies of pluralism of knowledge and pluralism of the institutions that produce it are accelerating, the popularization of science acquires a clip-like character. It is concluded that the decline in trust in science and scientists in modern Russia is not a consequence of incomplete modernization, but of post-modernization trends.
