Abstract
This article draws on U.S. documents that have been neglected in existing research to identify the role of the Provisional Military Advisory Group(PMAG) in the early days of the Yeosun Incident, and in doing so, sheds new light on the role of the PMAG. The PMAG led the establishment of the Task Force in the early stages of the Yeosun Incident, as it was difficult for the USAFIK to intervene directly. In addition, the PMAG led overall operational command in the Yeosun Incident. However, the actual on-the-ground command was provided by Colonel Hurley E. Fuller, who was temporarily seconded from the USAFIK. In other words, Colonel Fuller was the actual on-the-ground commander under the guise of a military advisor. Meanwhile, the PMAG used the Yeosun Incident as a training exercise for the Korean Constabulary and themselves.
