Abstract

Objectives: The optimal concentration ratio is studied by synthesizing beta-tricalcium phosphate(β-TCP) with commercial polycarboxylate cement with different concentration ratios, and the strength improvement of polycarboxylate cement, bioactivity assay and cytotoxicity assessments.
Methods: Polycarboxylate cement was used. The produced β-TCP was calculated as a weight ratio (wt%) and 5%, 10%, and 20% were added, and then specimens for various mechanical evaluation, bioactivity, and cytotoxicity evaluation were produced.
Results: As β-TCP content increased, setting time increased. And, compressive strength and Vickers hardness increased. In addition, seven days after putting it in the SBF solution, apatite was observed on the surface.
Conclusions: Therefore, these results suggest that amount of β-TCP in polycarboxylate cement increased, mechanical properties improved and bioactivity increased.
