Abstract

This study was performed to investigate the effect of resistance exercise on irisin mRNA, PGC-1α mRNA, IL-1β, TNF-α, HOMA-IR in OLETF rats. Eighteen male LETO and OLETF rats (20 weeks old) were used as subjects. All rats divided into 3 groups as LETO group (control group, n=6), OLETF group (diabetes control group, n=6), OLETF + E group (OLETF + resistance exercise group, n=6). The exercise group performed tower climbing exercise for 6 times/day, 5days/week for 8weeks. The results were as follows: First, irisin mRNA and PGC-1α mRNA were significantly increased in OLETF+E group compare with OLETF group (p.05). Second, IL-1β, TNF-α, HOMA-IR were significantly decreased in OLETF+E group compare with OLETF group (p.05). These results suggest that resistance exercise training might have positive effects of anti-diabetic, anti-inflammation and anti-obesity in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
