Abstract

Cutting ability of twin divergent nozzle tips and flat nozzle tips specially made for the experimental use, was investigated.The results may be summarized as follow:(1) Cutting efficiency of the twin nozzle tips is not higher than that of standard single nozzle tips, and decreases with increasing space between both nozzles.(2) Cutting efficiency of the flat nozzle tips is conspicuously below that of standard nozzle tips.(3) Variation of the nozzle position to the cutting direction, that is tandem or transverse, has no significant effect on the cutting efficiency at usually encountered cutting speed.(4) However, at slower cutting speed, the nozzle position has a great influence on the cutting ability. The critical speed, at slower than which the cutting ability decrease abruptly in spite of the increase in oxygen quantity per unit length of cut, of the tandem twin nozzle tips is higher than that of the standard single nozzle tips. On the contrary, when transverse flat nozzle tips are used, the critical cutting speed is greatly lowered.
